How to Prepare for Governance for UPSC?

The Indian Constitution, Governance and Social Justice, and International Relations are covered in GS paper II. According to the UPSC curriculum for GS paper 2, the component under Governance includes themes ranging from government policies to the role of public servants in a democracy.

The growth process and industry, important components of governance, the function of public services, and welfare packages for vulnerable sectors are all important themes in governance.

Here, one should be well-versed on the syllabus’s subtopics, such as the role of NGOs, SHGs, citizen charters, pressure groups, and e-governance. UPSC frequently asks questions from these themes based on the trend of previous years’ exam papers. In 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2021, for example, questions based on SHGs resurfaced. The same can be said about the other themes.

Given the dynamic nature of the syllabus, keeping a frequent eye on newspapers and magazines like Yojana would be the best way to comprehensively learn this section.

It is recommended that you keep your own notes with standard terminology for issues such as social audit, e-governance, SHGs, and other contemporary initiatives. Please keep in mind that examples are quite important in this work.

It’s also crucial to look into government programmes that help the most disadvantaged and disenfranchised members of society. Each topic on the syllabus should have enough information to warrant a 250-word response.

You can use PIB website, suggestions from 2nd ARC reports 1, 9, 10, 11 and 12, Economic Survey, and chosen chapters from India Year Book to supplement your preparation.

As all UPSC candidates are aware, the key to success is comprehending the curriculum, conducting an honest study of prior year examinations, and practising answering questions.
