  • Meghalaya is known for its unique living root bridges, also known as jingkieng jri.
  • These bridges are formed by guiding the flexible roots of rubber fig trees (Ficus elastica) across a stream or river, allowing them to grow and strengthen over time.
  • These bridges are found in the southern part of the state and are on the tentative list of UNESCO World Heritage sites.
  • Many of these bridges in Meghalaya are over a century old.
