- Ministry of Power (MoP) in 2017 cleared the Coal Linkage Policy known as SHAKTI (Scheme to Harness and Allocate Koyla Transparently in India).
- The Policy provides coal linkages to power plants which lack fuel supply agreements (FSAs) through coal auctions.
Objectives:
- The Shakti plan aims to guarantee coal availability to all Thermal Power Plants in India in a transparent and unbiased manner.
- The plan is meant to help both the infrastructure industry and the public sector banks, which owe enormous amounts to power firms in outstanding loans.
- The programme also seeks to strengthen domestic businesses and lessen reliance on imported coal.
